Building Endurance
Endurance is the foundation of all else we do on the bike. Riding in a moderate heart rate zone builds the base for us to later increase speed, strength, and power. Endurance rides also help your body adapt to the stresses you’ll impose later in the season, preparing your muscles, connective tissue, and joints, and flexibility. While also helping you to adapt to long hours in the saddle.

Circuit Training For Triathletes
Circuit Training and Specific Conditioning for Triathletes
Triathletes spend long hours building their aerobic fitness levels. They become aerobic machines and can swim, bike and run like crazy. So specific conditioning in the gym needs to be planned to work the anaerobic system and should be implemented in preparation to the racing season. These routines can be used as a “finisher” at the end of a strength workout or it could be used as the main “strength work” for that particular day. It seems that triathletes lack anaerobic power and it is hard for them to sustain high intensity bouts of training. So designing these short and high intensity circuit protocols in their workout routines will assist in building power endurance. This portion does not need to be long. When completing a normal strength training day, I will save 4-8 minutes as a “finisher” for high intensity conditioning sets that will build anaerobic power. I have laid out 2 sample conditioning sets that you could use at the end of the workout.

Jacob Dodge
Tri-Harder
Hello, my name is Jacob Dodge. I am an avid triathlete and cyclist from Reedley, California. My first triathlon was last year in September, 2008, where I competed in the Sprint race at Shaver Lake.
This is where I first met Ray and active.me. Ray supplied all the triathletes competing with nutritional products and water. He had a booth promoting XS energy drinks, along with some other products from active.me. This is where I first... |

Tri-This!
For three years as coach of the Tri-This! triathlon team I have trained several dozen students how to train for and compete in their first triathlon. 24 students have successfully completed an entire super-sprint, sprint, or olympic distance triathlon. 46 students have been involved in completing a triathlon counting being part of a relay team. What makes Tri-This! unique among other tri clubs in Fresno is that not only are all members high school students, but all of them come from schools where all students receive free breakfast and lunch due to the school's stated income levels. The kids have taken that label and shattered expectations. |

My First Tri (part 2)
The day before the Shaver Lake Triathlon race that I was signed up to compete in was very nerve racking. My family and I went to the lake the day before to get acclimated to the elevation. Shaver Lake is 5,500 feet above see level; because the air is so much thinner a racers body needs time to adjust to the altitude. When I saw the transition area, finish line, tents set up the night before it made everything more real. Before that I could have backed out; up at Shaver, the night before the race itself, there was no turning back. |
